Updated recommendation regarding Site 7 Old Orchard Road proposal to changes to taxi rank

Since publishing the Eastbourne Parking Review 2022-23 report, East Sussex County Council (ESCC) has been informed that Eastbourne Borough Council has approved planning permission for a dropped kerb crossover in Old Orchard Road, without consulting ESCC.

This will remove approximately 50% of the current taxi bay where there are proposed changes under the Eastbourne Parking Review, as referenced as part of the site 7 proposals in the report. Given this information it is now recommended to withdraw the proposal to change the use of the taxi bay at this time. 

The remaining parts of the proposals for site 7 are still recommended to be implemented and therefore the recommendation is that the objections that relate to these parts of the proposal are not upheld and that the proposal, as advertised, is made in part.

Updated Recommendation for Site 7: To withdraw the proposed change to the taxi rank in Old Orchard Road and recommend to the Director of Communities, Economy and Transport that the Traffic Regulation Order be made in part.
